The album is based on a concert series of the same name given at the Shaw Theatre, London, in February 2009. The tracklisting includes The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby, Andrew Lloyd Webber's As If We Never Said Goodbye from Sunset Boulevard, Petula Clark's Downtown, Dido's Lament from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Anthony Newley's What Kind of Fool Am I and Noel Coward's Mad About the Boy. Bryony Lavery and Jason’s new musical adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol triumphed at Birmingham Rep over Christmas 2009 to some great four and five star reviews.
On Broadway, Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music' starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angela Lansbury and Alexander Hanson, orchestrated by Jason for Trevor Nunn's production at the Menier Chocolate Factory always with real harp and bassoon but now with an additional 8th instrumentalist (a viola, since you asked!) continues.
Bryony and Jason's The Snow Queen played at Chichester Festival Theatre over Christmas.
Jason's orchestrations for Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun for four pianos was well received at the Young Vic directed by Richard Jones and with the spectacular Jane Horrocks and the velvet-voiced Julian Ovenden.
Jason is thrilled that La Cage Aux Folles was voted Best Musical Revival at the Oliviers. You can still hear his orchestrations at the Playhouse theatre where Roger Allam and Philip Quast are currently marvellous!
A photographer has also been in to rehearsals of Bryony and Jason's new musical of Hans Andersen's The Snow Queen at Chichester, so look out for pictures any time soon...
Jason is also busy in the studio – after their recent success at the Shaw Theatre, Maria Friedman and Jason are about to record their Great British Songbook for Sepia Records. Watch out for new albums from John Barr and Maria Kesselman featuring Jason’s playing and arrangements, and Nigel Richard's forthcoming CD is to feature ‘Death In The Clouds’ from ‘Six Pictures of Lee Miller’.
